Section Two: Astronaut Artifacts
Paul Weitz's SL-2 Skylab I Space Food

The Skylab Program, in addition to marking the first U.S. space station, saw a major advancement in the quality and variety of space food. The station had a full galley in which astronauts could cook and eat their meals.

Among the improvements were new packaging types that focused more on theromstablilized meals than dehydrated foods flown previously.

Smells do not travel well in space and the aroma of food enhances the sense of taste. To compensate for this, the crew members were provided with extra salt in liquid form.

This lot includes four unused food containers and two salt packages that were labeled for consumption by astronaut Paul Weitz during Skylab I (SL-2).
